How Sunshine Environmental products help meet the

Green Chemistry’s 12 principles:

1. Design safer chemicals and products: Design chemical products that are fully effective yet have little or no toxicity.

  • a. All our chemical manufacturing is done at room temperature, thus it does not need to be heated in anyway to be blended.

  • b. All our ingredients are from renewable feedstocks.

2. Analyze in real time to prevent pollution: Include in-process, real-time monitoring and control during syntheses to minimize or eliminate the formation of byproducts.

3. Avoid chemical derivatives: Avoid using blocking or protecting groups or any temporary modifications if possible. Derivatives use additional reagents and generate waste.

4. Design chemicals and products to degrade after use: Design chemical products to break down to innocuous substances after use so that they do not accumulate in the environment.

5. Design less hazardous chemical syntheses: Design syntheses to use and generate substances with little or no toxicity to either humans or the environment.

6. Increase energy efficiency: Run chemical reactions at room temperature and pressure whenever possible.

7. Maximize atom economy: Design syntheses so that the final product contains the maximum proportion of the starting materials. Waste few or no atoms.

8. Minimize the potential for accidents: Design chemicals and their physical forms (solid, liquid, or gas) to minimize the potential for chemical accidents including explosions, fires, and releases to the environment.

  • a. No by products are generated.

  • b. Our products are designed according to EPA standards for degradability and are tested to meet those standards.

  • c. Our products are designed to be re-useable over a long period of time. Their strength is designed to last after repeated uses.

  • d. Our products are not flammable or explosive and will not harm the environment if accidentally released.

  • e. Our products have no known adverse reactions to any other chemicals we have encountered. The only reactions we aim for are good.

9. Prevent waste: Design chemical syntheses to prevent waste. Leave no waste to treat or clean up.

  • a. Sunshine achieves this by only using initial ingredients that are approved and listed on the “cleangredients” list from the CEPA, DSL & NSNR. Our ingredients are made from renewable products that are naturally less toxic to ingredients that are 100% full circle. In other words, cradle to grave management of ingredients. No long or short term effects on humans or the environment.

  • b. Sunshine takes great pride in our zero waste policy. It is designed for no left over products that are stored or disposed of. Every chemical we use can always be used in another blend process, thus eliminating nothing to treat or clean up.

10. Use catalysts, not stoichiometric reagents: Minimize waste by using catalytic reactions. Catalysts are effective in small amounts and can carry out a single reaction many times. They are preferable to stoichiometric reagents, which are used in excess and carry out a reaction only once.

11. Use renewable feedstocks: Use starting materials (also known as feedstocks) that are renewable rather than depleting. The source of renewable feedstocks is often agricultural products or the wastes of other processes; the source of depleting feedstocks is often fossil fuels (petroleum, natural gas, or coal) or mining operations.

12. Use safer solvents and reaction conditions: Avoid using solvents, separation agents, or other auxiliary chemicals. If you must use these chemicals, use safer ones.

  • a. We accomplish this by strict measuring of our ingredients to ensure every last atom is used in our products. Our quality control system ensures no waste.

  • b. We do not employ any protecting groups or modifications in the manufacturing of our products.

  • c. We have designed our chemical products to be every effective in their related fields of use. These products were formulated to have little or no toxicity.
